The start of a new school year can mean new or additional costs, such as school uniforms, to food costs. Some children may require specialist equipment or support with travel to school. These expenses can place a significant strain on household budgets.

But help is available.   • School uniforms: read about government guidance on school uniforms here. You can contact the school’s headteacher if you are finding it difficult to meet the costs of purchasing the school uniform, to see what support may be available. You can also contact your local council to find out if they offer support with school uniform costs.
